Depression

Depression: Severe mood swings, perpetual fatigue, a tendency to overeat and oversleep and a generally uncommunicative nature are the typical symptoms of the onset of depression in human beings. Once the signs of depression are noticed in an individual, it is time to start counseling and other forms of treatment to help overcome the problem.

DepressionDepression is common among all age groups now days due to the stress brought about by unwelcome changes in one’s life or circumstances beyond your control. Symptoms of this mental condition differ from one person to another and the correct diagnosis needs to be made on a case to case basis to ascertain the degree and mode of treatment for the depressed person.

A depressed person is generally in a perpetual state of sadness and some lose interest in life completely. Even their favorite things like music or food and social activities take a backseat and fail to liven up their spirits. Depression intensifies as they are enveloped in a feeling of extreme low esteem and may even suffer from a persecution complex i.e., a feeling that they are a burden on family members and associates. They may also suffer from lack of sleep or sometimes no sleep at all.

The other symptoms of depression are: noticeable loss of appetite and weight; lower energy levels and a feeling of perpetual fatigue; restlessness for unexplained reasons; lower concentration levels; the inability to make decisions as well as suicidal tendencies and thoughts. Such individuals, suffering from depression, on the other hand, will show extra high levels of energy which can lead to chronic insomnia; extremely low concentration levels because of too many thoughts clouding their minds at one time and acute mood swings.

Manic depression symptoms (bipolar disorder) also include: a tendency to take unnecessary risks because of the reduction in the fear factor in the person’s mind and a tilt towards leaving jobs incomplete because of a loss of determination to complete it. The individual suffering from depression is also in a confused state always and is unable to tell one situation from another.

You should be able to know when you are depressed if you suffer from depression try and keep a record of the same for your counselor or psychiatrist so that they are able to understand your problem clearly and advise treatment accordingly.
